FROM THE WEEK

Jacob Misiorowski is an absolute menace

This week TVs were graced with a battle of past vs. future when Milwaukee Brewers golden arm Jacob Misiorowski took the bump against Los Angeles Dodgers legend Clayton Kershaw.

Immediately after allowing a leadoff, welcome to the freaking show kid, jack to center off the bat of Shohei Ohtani, “The Miz” sat down the next three batters.

From there, the rookie locked in with another nine strikeouts, leading the Brewers to a 3-1 win to put his season line at 4-1, 2.81 ERA, and 33 Ks.

At 6’7, The Miz is practically tickling home plate on his release. There’s an essence of Randy “Big Unit” Johnson with Misiorowski having a ridiculously long reach and regularly pinpointing ball to glove at over 100 MPH. When he’s not doing that, well, it’s just all unhittable.

"That was unbelievable...I don't know how you hit that, honestly,” said Kershaw after the game.

See for yourself.

What's with NBA teams selling…

Seems like it’s flying a little too under the radar that there is a sell off among NBA ownership as the NBA is dolling out record contracts.

If sponsorship revenue is up 8% in the past year and 91% in the past five years, why the hell are so many teams going up for sale?

Owners sell when they think a pinnacle has been reached. They don’t just jump ship in a booming industry with sky high growth potential.

Something is up.

In the last 3-5 years, the NBA has seen sales of the Lakers, Hornets, Timberwolves, Mavericks, Bucks, Trail Blazers, and even the Celtics won a championship then immediately sold.

Folks, this is an abnormal amount of teams in this small of a window!

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has been on a greed riddled mission to make the NBA the #1 sport worldwide, seemingly creating a bubble that is readying to pop when you consider the massive contracts dolled out at will and the lowest viewership since 2021.

The talent around the league is absolutely there, but somehow the total product is losing its quality. The NBA’s investments off the court and their media partners are simply not carrying their weight.

Even Silver, off the back of a new 11-year TV deal that goes into effect for the 2025-26 season, admits there’s something rapidly changing off the court that has major implications on the league.

“I mean, for the league, we have several of our team regional networks that have actually shut down. Others have recently come out of bankruptcy. Others seem to be teetering. We’re going through a transition in media,” said Silver.

There’s a longer story here. This will be interesting to watch unfold over the next few seasons.

The Herd compared Ayton to Giannis & Jokic

This is a headline one might expect to see from a satire blog like The Onion.

For those not familiar with “getting ratio’d” on X, it’s when you say something out of pocket, tons of people see it, no one likes the post, but everyone engages to tear it apart.

This post already sits at a whopping 220k views with only 200ish likes. That’s tough.

Imagine saying, in all seriousness, “Jokic is an MVP. Giannis is an MVP. AD’s All-NBA. Joel Embiid has an MVP… Deandre Ayton is in that class with them.”

HOW? Because he averaged 15 and 10?

Something about the difference in 15 points per game, among other important stats Ayton doesn’t even even sniff in comparison, seems to not matter when your network is incentivized to prop up certain markets.

To say Ayton is not recognized as one of the greats because he played in Portland, where he acted like a child because he didn’t want to play there, is as lazy of a take as it gets.

Even for today’s national media, that seems to be on a race to the bottom, this is bad.

Between Giannis, Jokic, Anthony Davis, and Embiid, there are 89 accolades.

Add in Ayton’s one (1) accolade from his rookie season to bring the total between the five players to 90.

This type of take from a national media outlet is a reminder of why a platform like Sidelinr Sports exists in the first place (tell your friends).
